At the recent KUGB Scottish Karate Championship, held at Bishopbriggs Leisure Centre, Glasgow, Largs Karate club, had a very successful day, winning a good haul of medals, with the students excelling and doing Largs proud. Many of the younger students would have found the experience quite daunting, but managed to conquer their nerves, and produce some outstanding Karate.

In the Kids Kata, O .O'Connor placed 3rd bronze medal with the impressive T.Allan a creditable 4th

In the children's Kata  G. Arneil, who is an accomplished gymnast, produced a near flawless display to gain 1st and become Scottish champion, and not to be outdone, E.Taylor, who is almost omnipresent at the club, managed a 3rd place, with an impressive showing.

The Advanced children's Kata, saw a Williams family 1st and 2nd place, with D.Williams producing a peerless 'Gojushio Dai' kata to win gold, and become the Scottish champion, with his sibling sister E.Williams close on his heels, with an impressive'Jion' kata to earn silver.

The Adult female kata event, saw the older S.Williams outclass her opponents, with an outstanding display of karate technique, and become Scottish champion.

In the children's mixed kata the Largs A team were crowned Scottish champions, with Largs B team being a creditable 3rd place.

The Adult mixed team kata saw Largs A placed 3rd, and Largs B 4th, which in a category laden with season internationalists, was impressive.

The children's mixed Ippon kumite (fighting) saw E.O'Connor gain a 3rd place bronze medal for her endeavours.

The advanced children's mixed ippon kumite, saw the ever improving R.Allan narrowly beaten into 2nd earning her a deserved silver medal.

In the girls under16 Kumite, the diminutive E.Williams showed her warrior spirit to give her much larger opponents a lesson in tenacity, for her to place 3rd and win bronze medal.

In the boys under 16 Kumite, D.Williams fought furiously showing an indomitable spirit, good tactics and guile to outwit his opponents, with an array of impressive karate techniques to secure 1st place and become Scottish kumite champion and grand champion having won both Kata and Kumite disciplines.

In the female junior Kumite (under 21) S.Williams fought impressively, giving no quarter, and being narrowly beaten int 2nd place earning her a deserved silver medal.

Finally the Largs senior Kumite team in their first outing, fought doggedly to produce some excellent karate to be placed 3rd Bronze medallists. This was an excellent result in a category awash with seasoned internationalists.

The club would like to thank all the competitors, spectators, and helpers, who together were good ambassadors, represting the town of Largs well.

Largs Karate club train on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7pm to 9.30pm at Largs Academy Gymnasium. New and former students are most welcome.
