A Largs musician David Skirving has released a CD in Japan with his band California Snow Story - which has a very sentimental photo on its front cover.

Poignantly, the album 'Some Other Places' features David's mother Frances on the cover, and recently featured in a Japanese male fashion magazine.

Frances, who worked as a receptionist in the Doctor's surgery in Largs for many years, passed away last year, and was always very supportive of his music career.

The picture shows Frances sitting on a scooter outside 'PreFab' (pre-fabricated) houses in Hole Farm Road in Greenock in 1961.

David, who recorded the album last year, said: "I thought it was a striking image and would be nice to use the photo as a tribute to her.

"I've been involved in music for a long time, and my mother was quite musical and she was always encouraging me, and usually let her friends hear my CDs."

David, who lived in Japan for six years, moved back to Scotland and now works at a college in Glasgow.

The 44 year old said: "My wife Madoka is the keyboard player in the band and she is Japanese. She contacted a Japanese independent record label (Rallye), who are quite famous in Japan and they liked the music and decided to release it.

"The album features a lot of guest musicians from various countries - a singer from Spain, Lupe Nunez Fernandez, a drummer from Norway, Kristoffer Solvang and a Japanese bass player, Yumi Hirata."

The album will come out in America on a good label called Shelflife Records and they will make it available online in the US and Europe.

David's proud father, Allan, lives in Moorburn Road, Largs.
