Please Don’t Feed the Seagulls’ is the clear message of our ‘News’ campaign, and local schoolchildren have rallied round to provide their own posters in a fantastic competition.
Pupils got involved by designing warning posters for the public and visitors about the seagull problem.
Jane Wilson, who helped launch the campaign, was delighted at the scale of the creativity shown by children in putting together the eye-catching publicity material. The winning poster by Callum Ballantyne is to be printed and distributed around the town this summer to alert people to the dangers of feeding seagulls.
The the top three prize winners - Callum, Ashton MacKinnon, and Jack Uppington - all received vouchers from the Bus Stop Toy Shop in Largs as prizes for their creative works.
Funding for Callum’s posters to go around the town has been provided by the Largs Community Council environmental sub committee towards the posters.
Jane said she was delighted with the quality of the designs, and said: “I am so pleased that Callum has won the competition with his fantastic picture which really does demonstrate the need not to feed the seagulls, and really impressed by the 2nd and 3rd entries, Ashton and Jack respectively.
“I love the ingenuity and creativity of everyone involved. I and the committee have been very impressed with both the design and input of the children of the primaries of Largs have put into the competition. Well done to all!”
