Kilsyth Rangers 1 Largs Thistle 2
From the brink of disaster to the exultation of ecstasy, Largs Thistle produced one of the most dramatic comebacks ever to have been witnessed in the history of the club to secure a memorable promotion win.
Despite dominating proceedings for the opening hour, the Barrfields side had nothing to show for their efforts, and Kilsyth had moved a goal up, and looked like holding off the Largs onslaught until those dramatic dying minutes.
Going into Saturday's final league match, Largs could have finished first, second, third or fourth, and knew that a victory would secure a play-off at the very least.
Defeat was unthinkable, but suddenly seemed probable, as other teams would then know exactly what was necessary to overtake Largs, but it was almost as if the sudden realisation that Thistle could sink without trace, after leading the way in the McBookies.com Super West 1st Division, spurred on the players in that unforgettable finale.
Disaster struck as Kilsyth took the lead mid-way through the second half, as a long ball caught Thistle off guard, and Prentice showed a clever first touch to control the ball before nipping around the Largs defence to coolly finish off.
Thistle squeezed in an equaliser on 88 minutes as Nicky Jamieson's lofted ball into the box caused problems for the Kilsyth rearguard, and Marks jumped for the loose ball and beat the keeper on the left before slotting home to suddenly live Largs out of the depths of despair.
A quick throw from Craig to player-boss Slavin resulted in a lofted ball into the box and Jamieson rose above a defender to head goalwards to the left post, but the ball seemed to be going wide.
Monkeith in goal fatally decided not to go for it but Pierce didn't give up the cause and chased on to beyond the left post and stretched out his back leg to skilfully back heel the ball into the corner of the net.
The final whistle then blew sparking the most amazing celebrations. Thistle had done it. The management team of Slavin, Stuart Davidson and Drew Walsh deserve all the plaudits that come their way after transforming this Thistle side in a highly competitive division.
If Saturday proves one thing, it is drama all the way with the Barrfields side. In reality, Largs don't do it any other way.
