The 1st Largs Girls Brigade recently held their end of year Annual Awards evening in what has been a busy and fulfilling year for all.

Captain Vicky McGregor said: "It's been another busy year with lots of activities and fundraising going on. Our charity of the year has been Smalls for All, a Scottish charity set up to provide bras and underwear to girls in African countries. We have been delighted with the amount of underwear that has been handed in to us and we were able to hand a boot-ful to the charity when they came to speak to us.

"We are delighted that three of our Brigaders; Lidia Carbonell, Iona Gordon and Shauna Jackson, have completed their Brigader brooches this year which is the second highest award in the Girls Brigade.

"Shauna Jackson who is receiving her Brigader brooch has been in the company since Primary 1 and has been helping every week at Explorers.

Rev David Watson of Clark Memorial Church was the chairman for the evening and the awards were presented by Grace Gilchrist. Brigader brooch winners are Lidia Carbonell, Iona Gordon and Shauna Jackson.

And during the recent bank holiday weekend, girls from 1st Largs Girls Brigade joined 5th Kilmarnock GB to camp at Dumfries House Outdoor Centre.

Vicky said: "We were blessed with fabulous weather which helped to make it a really wonderful weekend for girls and officers alike. The girls were able to take part in archery and wall climbing as well as going on an obstacle course.

"We also enjoyed a campfire, making crafts and circus skills. We were also able to explore the grounds of Dumfries House (near Auchinleck) and were able to see the cars taking part in the Bentley Rally as well as enjoy an ice cream together."
