It is a grand return for the Cathedral of the Isles summer concerts this weekend - and for special reason too!

Just in time for another season of summer concerts at the Cathedral of The Isles, the Bösendorfer concert grand piano returned to the island following a six month period of complete restoration.

Fundraising to pay for the extensive work is still in progress.

It will make a wonderful contribution to the “Music for a Summer Afternoon” series of concerts. The pattern is familiar – an hour-long concert beginning at 3pm. Entry is free, but the audience is asked to contribute generously to a retiring collection. A new development this year is the introduction of Cathedral Cloister Teas after each concert.

The programmes will vary widely, from choral music to solo keyboard pieces, from song recitals to concerts of Baroque concertos. Two interesting musical anniversaries will be noted: Hamish MacCunn (1868-1916) on August 7th and Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924) on September 4th. The restored Bösendorfer will be allowed a few weeks to settle down before the official opening Piano Recital is given by Angela Brownridge on August 14th – the highlight of the season.

However, the first concert takes place on Sunday June 26 and will take the form of a brilliant performance of Scottish fiddle music given by the Alastair Savage Trio. Everyone will be made welcome.
