A new defibrillator has been launched in Largs in memory of the much missed local woman - Pat Fox.

Largs First Responders were on hand for the official launch of the new life saving equipment at Co-op, which includes full audio instructions for the public to use during an emergency situation.

Pictured are Mark Davidson, Cooperative Stores Team Manager; Pat's daughter Sharon Weir, and Les Ward of the Saltire Appeal.

The defibrillator at the Co-operative Food Store at the Promenade, Largs, has been sited in memory of the late Mrs Pat Fox and was kindly provided by the retiring collection at Mrs Fox's church service, public contributions at the store and a donation from the Saltire Appeal.

The First Responders are in the process of raising funds to provide defibrillators at Tesco's Store in Aitken Street, outside the RNLI shed on the promenade and outside the Fire Station in Brisbane Road.

Any donations towards the purchase of the defibrillators will be greatly appreciated and accepted by contacting David Macdonald, James Bertram or any member of the Responders.

Andrew Eaglesham, store manager at Largs’ Co-op said: “As a community retailer, our Largs store is at the heart of the community, and is well placed to house this potentially life-saving equipment. We raised money for the defibrillator in store and the local first responders were responsible for fitting and will help maintain it.”

James Bertram, chairman of Largs First Responders said: "These defibs could be a real life saver, and this mobile phone app is really excellent for using, not just in Largs, but anywhere, as it will show where defibrillators are based near your location. It is a really useful tool.

"The defibrillators themselves are very hi-tec, and there is a voice kit which tells you exactly what to do in the event of an emergency so anyone who is not trained in CPR is able to use it. It is a very intelligent piece of kit. Nobody should have any fear about using it."

It adds to a growing list of defibrillators in Largs town centre with devices at Morrison's, Tesco, and The George bar.
