Community Council

Largs Community Council's ordinary meeting will take place on the Thursday 18 August at 7pm in Largs Library. Business will include licensing applications, review of the proposed forestry proposal transport and other issues. NAC Elected Councillors are normally in attendance. The meeting is open to the public.

RNLI Dance

The Largs RNLI Fundraising Branch is holding a ceilidh in the Marquee at Largs Yacht Haven on Friday 26 August from 8pm to midnight. Music will be provided by the Susan McFadyen Ceilidh Band who will play a mixture of ceilidh and popular music to favourite dances.

Tickets can be obtained from the RNLI Shop on the Promenade, the Largs Yacht Haven Reception or on the night for £5 each. So get your dancing shoes on and come along!

Car Boot

The last of the season's car boot sales is on Saturday 20 August, so start clearing out the attic and come along down to St. Columba’s Scottish Episcopal Church, Aubery Crescent, to meet the local community. Be sure to book a pitch by phoning 672410 or contacting their Facebook page. Cars £7 Vans £11 Tables £5 on their own, sellers arrive 8am. Opens for buyers after 9am till 1pm.

Bus Pass Ballet

Bus Pass Ballet, for the over 50s will be starting at the Vikingar on Wednesday 7 September from 11.30am-12.30pm. Following the success of the Bus Pass Ballet class which has now been running for two years in West Kilbride, Marylin Killen is opening a new class in Largs. The principal idea is to try something new while keeping the body and brain fit and active, ballet is arguably one of the best forms of exercise as it provides equal measures of suppleness, stamina and strength. No previous training is required, all you need is comfortable clothing and a sense of humour. An integral part of the class is laughter! Why not give it a try? Marylin is a fully qualified, highly experienced advanced ballet dancer and teacher.

1st Girls Brigade

The 1st Largs Girls' Brigade would like to invite existing members and any new girls to their Open Night on Tuesday 23 August in the Dunn Memorial Hall 6.30-7.30pm. There will be a range of crafts, games and a chance to get to know the leaders as well as tea and coffee for parents. For girls wishing to enrol there will be the opportunity to do this and order new uniforms or take a look at our pre-loved sweatshirts.

Girls' Brigade is an international organisation for girls and we provide a safe, relaxed environment for girls to experience a range of activities including camp and sleepovers. A chance meet new friends, and most importantly, have fun. For our older girls we offer excellent leadership opportunities and are recognised as a part of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme for volunteering or girls can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award through the Company.

Largs Girls' Brigade are able to accept any girl of school age to join Girls' Brigade and are sure that they will have a great time. Please pop in to Dunn Memorial Hall on Tuesday 23 August or phone Vicky on 686156.

OIR Dance Group

The OIR Dance Group start back on Monday 5 September at 1.30pm. In the Clark Memorial Hall. Dancing consists of Ballroom, Sequence, old time and Scottish.

All new members welcome, so dust off your old dance shoes and come along and join us, come alone or bring a partner.

90 year old medium

The guest speaker and demonstrator at Largs Spiritualist Church at the Brisbane Centre, Bath Street on Sunday at 2.30pm is one of the UK's oldest mediums, Mrs Lilian Gibb from Northern Ireland. Lilian who has just celebrated her 90th birthday will also demonstrate her mediumship in Glasgow this weekend. There is free spiritual healing from qualified healers from 1.30pm. All welcome.

Light Opera

Glasgow Light Opera Club present 'Gloc 'n' Spiel' - an evening of songs from the musicals with patter, introduced by Graham Sherry with David Mackie at the piano and singing from members of the club. The event takes place in St Columba's Parish Church on Saturday 20 August at 7.30pm. Tickets can be obtained at the door, or from the Heritage Centre between midday and 4pm, Monday to Saturday.

Age Concern

The winners of the Age Concern Prize Draw held in the Cameron Centre, Lade Street, Largs on Monday 15 August were as follows. 1 - Ian McMaster, 2 - Gina Dooley, 3 - -Liz Lothian, 4 - Val Blakey, 5 - Greta Wilson, all win vouchers to use in Morrisons Supermarket.

Thursday 15 September, A trip to The Kelpies followed by a conducted tour of Stirling with time to explore or do some shopping and finishing with a Carvery at The Waterwheel in Port Glasgow. Names and monies for this event will be taken on Monday 29 August and Monday 5 September between 10 am and 12 noon.
