The hot spell of weather encouraged people to use inflatables on the Largs shore, but one particular incident resulted in an emergency call to the Coastguard last Tuesday.

It was to prove a busy day for the Largs RNLI, who had already attended a hoax call of a person in the water off the Isle of Cumbrae earlier in the morning.

RNLI Press Officer Alasdair Woods explained that volunteer crew were alerted to a group of people with floating devices which look like Li- Lo’s, and they appeared to be in some difficulty off Largs shore.

However as the lifeboat crew assembled and prepared to launch the group had made it safely back to shore. The lifeboat did not launch and the crew stood down and went back to their day jobs.

And last Thursday morning, a five metre boat with one person on board experienced difficulty in the water, at around 11.15.

Alasdair said: "The craft was located between Great Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae Island in an area known locally as ‘’The Tan’’

"Arriving on scene the lifeboat crew established the motor boat had suffered mechanical failure in both, the main inboard engine and the auxiliary outboard motor.

"The craft was taken in tow to Largs Yacht Haven where assistance was given in recovering the craft and her occupant."

Thereafter the lifeboat returned to station to be made ready for her next service.

Alasdair added: "Thank you to all the employers who allow their staff time out to attend their volunteer role in the RNLI lifeboat service."
