TRAFFIC UPDATE - A78 HUNTERSTON
The A78 has re-opened in both directions due to an earlier road traffic incident on the road at Hunterston near Fairlie .
A woman is in a critical condition in Crosshouse hospital after her car crashed into a lamppost close to Hunterston power station.
The incident happened at around 5.50am today on the A78 Fairlie to Largs road.
She was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock.
Staff have described her condition as critical.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 5.52am on Tuesday, August 23 to reports that a car had collided with a lamppost and was potentially on fire, on the A78 Fairlie to Largs road at the Hunterston roundabout.
Sergeant Ian Thornton from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Irvine said:“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident however I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time and may have seen a red Vauxhall Corsa on the road.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Irvine on 101.”
