The Save the Gretas petition was delivered last Monday in relation to the proposed forestry project for Blair Park and Halkshill in Largs.

The petition to Mr Stakis was delivered to his home on Monday 15 August and accepted by his wife in his absence.

At the time of delivery there were approximately 1000 online signatures, 600 paper signatures and over 300 comments logged.

The deadline for comments or objections to the Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) on the proposal was 14th August.

Approximately 120 comments and objections lodged from groups, individuals, MSP, organisations and statutory bodies which will be considered by FCS when considering the scheme. In the meantime, the online petition shall remain open until a final decision is given.

The petition aims to provide a compromise solution to suit both the Stakis forestry development and the Largs public.

It proposes that the area of planting is restricted to the east of the Greeto Burn, while the area to the south bank of the Gogo Valley is left alone as it is a popular and well-used beauty spot.

Campaigners say it is a win-win situation as the public keep the popular spot for hillwalkers and picnickers, while Stakis can still plant over one million trees east of the Greeto.
