A motorist was caught speeding at 67 miles per hour in 30 limit on the A78 trunk road in Skelmorlie by traffic cops.

It comes as a result of Roads Policing officers launching a road safety action plan in response to concerns raised by local residents regarding speeding motorists in the area.

Officers have been deployed on high visibility patrols to promote road safety and encourage responsible road use by all.

Three drivers have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged speeding with one driver reported for allegedly driving at 67 mph in the 30mph limit. A further two drivers have been issued fixed penalty notices for allegedly driving in excess of the speed limit.

Police Scotland would like to reinforce to members of the public that speeding is a causal factor in many road deaths and serious injuries - everyone has a responsibility to use the road network responsibly.

Inspector Dean Pennington, of Ayrshire Divisional Roads Policing Unit, said “Road safety remains a key priority for Police Scotland and we will continue to act in response to concerns from the public. These action plans are specifically designed to address these public concerns and ensure the roads in Ayrshire are safe. The high visibility presence of officers will continue as will their proactive approach to having a positive influence on driver behaviour and detecting offences.”
