The whole of Largs has embraced Abbymania as the swimmer takes on the world at the Paralympics at Rio.

The 13 year old took part in her first races on Monday, with a creditable finish. Her second event took place on Wednesday in which she gained another personal best.

However, expectations are high as Abby moves into the discipline that she specialises in.

The 'News' took to the streets of Largs to get an idea of teh support Abby has behind here. And there is video evidence to show that everyone in the town is behind her.

Abby Kane's swim coach Sharon McIntyre believes that the teenager is fully focused to come back from Rio with a medal as the 13 year old looks to 'Seize the Day' on Super Saturday.
During Monday's 400m finals, Sharon was sitting halfway up the second tier, and giving her full support to Abby from the sidelines, and could even be heard on the television cheering on the swimming starlet at the Olympics Aquatic Stadium.
Speaking from Rio, Sharon said: "I don't usually shout during the swim, but my daughter Kara back home told me she could clearly hear my voice! I told Abby just to enjoy her first race and chill, take it as a warm-up, but once you are there, your nerves kick in, and I have to say she did really well. After the heat in the morning, she was mad that she let the Australian girl beat her. I told her she was very fast in the first 200m, and to hold herself better in the 200m comeback. Abby did really well, and when talking to the other athletes at the event, they were being asked what are you here for. The American girl said she is in Rio for the experience, but Abby replied she is here for a medal!

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
"Abby said that she thinks the other girl was scared of her - and I said that is what you are out to prove - I taught her well!"
Sharon added: "Abby is not phased at all and that is the good thing - her attitude is really good.
"My daughter has been keeping me up to date with all the support on social media back home and it has been excellent.
Sharon added: "Keep cheering on Abby on your television screens, we value all your support!

"It is great to see, and this is why we commit ourselves to 4.30am starts every morning to go to the pool - for moments like this."

Largs Academy head teacher Heather Burns said: "We are absolutely over the moon about Abby. We have a lovely display in our English department corridor with posters and good wishes for Abby. The PE department also has posters, and we have been updating the school children every day about Abby's progress - there is a great feeling throughout the school."

"We are all so, so proud of her, it is actually very emotional watching Abby taking on the world. We are right behind her - and for her to get personal bests so far is just outstanding.

"Bring it on Saturday!"
