An ongoing campaign to inspire greater participation in community councils in Largs and Millport will step up a gear next week.

A series of information sessions are to be held in localities across North Ayrshire for those interested in making a difference in their local area by becoming a Community Councillor.

There are a number of successful and active community councils currently operating in the area. In some localities there are no community councils and the campaign aims to increase local support for these important grassroots organisations.

Cumbrae Community Council have struggled to get enough members in order to hold meetings this year.

A series of information sessions were held last month to raise interest and awareness of Community Councils.

Starting next week another round of locality based sessions, "Community Councils - What's Your Role" are being delivered and will focus on the roles and responsibilities of Community Councils and Councillors.

The meetings will be held at: Brisbane Centre, Largs, on Thursday, 29 September, from 7pm-9pm, and The Garrison, Millport, on Tuesday, 4 October, from 6pm-7.30pm

It would help us to know if you are interested in going along to the information sessions by booking a place by Friday, 23 September, by emailing ccreviewandelections@north-ayrshire.gov.uk.

Councillor Louise McPhater, Cabinet member for Communities, said the sessions will be of huge benefit to those who have expressed an interest in becoming a Community Councillor.

Councillor McPhater added: “This is a real opportunity for people to have a meaningful voice for their local communities.

“Many people may think that they don’t have the skills or knowledge to be a Community Councillor – but all they really need is a will to work for the benefit of their local community. Support will be on offer to help them through the process.”

The sessions are being staged ahead of Community Councils elections which will be held during October and November.
