A 20 year old passenger has died in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in Wednesday morning road crash between Largs and Kilbirnie.

Police Scotland is appealing for any information following a fatal road crash on the A760.

Around 0835 hours, two women were travelling within a grey Seat Ibiza motor vehicle heading westbound towards Largs.

At that time, the vehicle mounted a grass verge close to Blair Park Farm and collided with a tree.  A number of drivers who were passing by stopped to assist and contacted emergency services.

The 21 year-old woman who was driving the vehicle was taken to the Inverclyde Royal Hospital where she was released after receiving treatment for minor injuries.

The 20 year-old passenger, Ashley King of Kilbirnie, was also taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries, however she subsequently died of those injuries within hospital later that evening. 

Enquiries into the road crash are continuing. Sergeant Ian Thornton of the Divisional Road Policing Unit for Ayrshire said today: “Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this collision and I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the grey Seat Ibiza being driven on the A760, to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Irvine via the police non-emergency number 101.”
