Largs Community Council have voiced their disappointment that not all the Main Street road resurfacing was carried out during last weekend.
The A78 trunk road through the town centre was closed off to allow 40m of road resurfacing, but a significant section couldn't be done.
Ian Murdoch, who is chairman of the roads committee, has asked Transerv, who carried out the road maintenance on behalf of Transport Scotland, if they will come back to finish the job.
A strip of road from between Greggs and the Bank of Scotland area couldn't be resurfaced after cars were parked in this particular section, and couldn't be moved.
Ian said: "This is because three cars and a van were parked there on Friday night. I asked the roadworks officials if they wanted help, to go and get the police to try and get the vehicles removed, but they told us that they had no authority to move the cars. Given the size of the project, we were surprised and disappointed.
"They made a good job of what they have done but it is disappointing that a whole strip has been left untouched.
"More effort should have been made to make sure there were no cars there after 8pm on Friday, or at the very least, they should have had the power to tow them away."
Ian also said he was disappointed that there were still long queues as cars were sometimes ignoring the signage, and heading down to Morrison's roundabout, before having to turn and go back. He said: "There should have been marshals on the ground to deal with the problem. On Sunday, the whole length of John Street and up Irvine Road there was a queue as it was sunny and the start of the school holidays."
Largs roads campaigner Archie Burleigh wrote to Transerv: "I would like to congratulate Scotland Transerv on their diligence and effort along with their subcontractors during the resurfacing works on Largs Main Street last weekend. The works were carried out with the minimum of fuss and the diversions worked well.
"On behalf of the Largs people I can only offer our sincere apologies for the belligerent few that ignored the advance notices and continued to park in the works area and in the well defined no parking areas of the diversion route."
As we went to press, Mr Murdoch told the 'News' that the Transerv had told him that the the road area between Greggs and Bank of Scotland which was not re-surfaced will be completed at a future stage.
