It looks like there will be no traditional fireworks display at Largs Pencil for the second year running.

Guy Fawkes Night is on Saturday 5 November this year, but as yet, there is no sign of a public display taking place.

Largs and District Round Table, who successfully ran the event for over thirty years, have disbanded, and Largs Events, who managed to jointly run the last event with help of the Round Table, do not have the resources.

Ian Murdoch, chairman of the voluntary Largs Events group said: "There needs to be a committee to run a fireworks display. The Round Table did a wonderful job and it was run very successfully every year, but it is now no longer in existence.

"If people want the fireworks to come back for Guy Fawkes night in future, then there will have to be a committee to organise it and help fund it."

The Explore Largs business group recently introduced fireworks at the end of the late night shopping evening, off the end of Largs Pier which has proved be highly successful.

And funding cuts affected this year's Viking Festival end of event party which was moved to Broomfields, and left over funds from the Largs Round Table fireworks displays in the past were used to support the pyrotechnics display.

The only public fireworks display in the local area will be taking place at Fairlie Community Garden on the evening of Saturday 5 November.
