A councillor has sent out an S.O.S to save Largs Events which produces the popular family fun weekend every summer - or the group may fold.

Several of the current committee who manage Largs Events are standing down at this year’s AGM.

Commenting Largs Councillor Alan Hill said, “Over the years Largs Events have gone from strength to strength albeit with a small band of dedicated volunteers ably led by Ian Murdoch. The Largs Family Fun Weekend which they organise and manage is now firmly fixed on the local calendar as a “must see” event every year.

"As a group they have also given nth light at various times to establishing different events in the town."

Unfortunately a number of the current committee are standing down this year following several years of dedicated service to the group.

New committee members and volunteers are urgently required to join the group and continue its successful work going forward.

Cllr. Hill added: "Without new volunteers there is a very real possibility that this group may fold. I would strongly urge anyone who has ever attended and enjoyed the Fun Day or may be interested in establishing new events in our town to come along to the AGM which a to be held in Largs Library on Thursday 27 October at 7pm."

Ian Murdoch said: "The fun weekend is in jeopardy unless we get more people to come on to the committee.

"We need people who will move the event forward, and personally, I don't want it folding, as I am one of the founding members, and we have created something better year on year, but I cannot dedicate the time I used to and have to move aside.

"I have been on board for four years, and has been a real team effort, if we just resign and walk away, the thing will fold. Next week's meeting is important as there needs to be a decision who is going to run it, as if there is going to be a fun weekend, you have to book things and organise it now."

If you can't make the meeting, but are still interested to get involved, phone Ian on 07944 722 027.
