Skelmorlie, Millport and West Kilbride are receiving various road improvements and new street lighting.

Millport is to benefit from footway resurfacing at the shore side of Kelburn Street costing £18,000, and the full length of Cumbrae Drive at £24,000. The new seafront illuminations at Millport were recently erected in time for the illuminations weekend.

A total of £27,000 is being spent on the resurfacing of Yerton Brae in West Kilbride, while Skelmorlie Castle Road in Skelmorlie is receiving new road markings between Golf Course Road to the junction of Halketburn at an estimated cost of £35,000.

In terms of lighting column replacements due to age and disrepair, five streets in West Kilbride will be shining brighter thanks to £91,800 in council funds being diverted towards Arthur Court, Ritchie Street, Well Street, Arthur Street, Portencross Road, Yerton Brae, and Corse Street.

Replacement lighting is also going up at The Crescent, and Golf Course Road in Skelmorlie to the total value of £37,000, while Jetty Road and Bay Street in Fairlie, also featured in the lighting improvements budget, to the tune of £34,200. The street lighting in Bay Street has been a problem which received regular airings at the village's community council meeting by residents.

Campbell Dempster, Team Manager for Commercial Services (Roads), said: "North Ayrshire Council are responsible for the maintenance of the local adopted road network and street lighting as well as any other non-adopted road and street lighting assets within its ownership.

He added that the council's road and transportation service had allocated available funds to specific locations 'that will offer the most beneficial return on the investment."
