Largs Academy pupils were given an important lesson on internet safety by the police, and received important hints and tips.

PC Murray of the Largs locality policing team spoke to pupils last week about the dangers associated with the worldwide web including cyber bullying and crime.

The police informed pupils that it was important to check your social media privacy settings, and make sure your updates are seen only by those you know and trust.

PC Murray added that it was important for pupils to remember to review their passwords - make sure they are strong enough, and that you are not using the same ones for more than one account.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "“Get Safe Online Day is an opportunity for police, our partners and communities to raise awareness on steps we can all take to protect ourselves online at work or in our personal lives.

"This year's event was a fantastic opportunity to hold some informal open workshops and engage with students and staff.

"These workshops allowed the college community to access up to date information and advice on keeping themselves safe online as well as raising awareness of Cyberbullying and how to report crimes and offences associated with Social Media.

"The attendance and feedback was fantastic.

Largs Academy re-inforced the messages by re-tweeting hints and tips on their Academy twitter page.
