Parents from poorer families are missing out after not being paid vital school grants for around three months.
The 'News' can reveal that North Ayrshire Council are behind in processing their education maintenance allowance payments, which affect the most disadvantaged kids in the local area.
It is believed that the council are still working on August applications, which means that children have no received about 9-10 weeks of payments, amounting to £300 each.
The 'News' took up the issue with North Ayrshire Council, and asked how long it would be until it is resolved.
A council spokesperson said: “We can only apologise for the delay and we are working tirelessly to process the payments at the earliest opportunity.
“This is traditionally a period that we can encounter backlogs due to late applications. However, we have recognised this and significant changes are being put in place to ensure we can achieve a quicker turnaround and higher level of customer service.
“These changes are still being implemented and we envisage an improved service being in place for next session."
