A new children's book featuring Largs landmarks about a young girl and her Scottie dog is about to hit the shelves.

'Cecily and Dougal' includes a range of illustrations by Davina Kyle, and the story including verse and song is written by Cecily Lewis, a school teacher at St Mary's Primary.

Artist Davina is originally from Dundee but has lived in the west coast for thirty years, and moved to Largs around nine years ago; she was delighted to provide her own illustrations for the book.

Davina and Cecily met though a ballroom dancing class lunchtime event in Largs, and the book project took off from there.

Largs provided the ideal setting for the book, as the young girl's adventures with her faithful Scottie have a range of colourful illustrations including Nardini's Cafe, the ice cream kiosk and water fountain. Important landmarks also feature including Largs Pencil, and of course, Nardini's Restaurant.

Davina said: "I was a window dresser to trade and it was when I retired that I started painting, and it just kind of snowballed from there. I did greeting cards of Largs at first. I was asked if I could illustrate the book and was delighted to do so. The book is essentially about a wee girl and her dog going and walking about Largs, with song and verse in it as well - it is ideally aimed at nursery age, primary one, and two."

North Ayrshire Council are looking at making the books available via local libraries.
