A Largs barber is hoping to make the cut and  be crowned winner of Scotland’s Best Barber 2017 - but needs your vote.
Ethan Stubbs, 26, is aiming to make his way to the live final of Scotland’s Best Barber 2017, which will be held at the Scottish Hair and Beauty show on Saturday, April 23, at Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Centre.
A selection of Ethan’s work features on the Scotland’s Best Barber website throughout February, where the general public have been invited to vote for their favourite barbers and hairstyles.
Over 100 barbers entered the competition, and these have been shortlisted to 25. If Ethan can secure one of the top four spots from this vote, he will have the chance to perform two haircuts during the live final on the Great British Barbering Academy stage for his chance to be crowned the king of Scottish barbering.
Ethan said: “I moved to Scotland from Essex with my parents and was on the lookout for a career. My next door neighbour Suzanne Fairlie mentioned her best friend Susan Stewart, a local barber, was looking to take on an apprentice. I met with the lady the following day and the rest is history.
“It ignited a passion. I worked three days in the shop as a junior and spent three days at the Scottish Barbering School. Progress led me from the shop floor to shop manager, before leaving to apply my trade in my own shop – Blackout Barbershop.”
Scotland’s Best Barber 2017 is being hosted by premium educational service the Great British Barbering Academy (GBBA) and one of the hair and beauty industry’s biggest professional retailers, Salon Services.
Barbering is currently enjoying a remarkable renaissance, especially in Scotland.
“The Great British Barbering Academy is incredibly proud to be hosting this prestigious competition,” said Mike Taylor. “The standards of barbering displayed by all of those that have been shortlisted are a testament to Scottish barbering and the hair and beauty industry as a whole. We’ve seen more entries this year than ever before and can’t wait to crown a new champion.”
