In the Largs and Millport Weekly News February 8, there is reference to the Main Issues Report from North Ayrshire Council and their development plans covering the next four years. West Kilbride and Dalry Conservative candidate Todd Ferguson has written a letter to the 'News' on the plans.
He said: " It is imperative for local people to have a look at these proposals and provide feedback highlighting their concerns to North Ayrshire Council.
"My concern is that continued development and growth within the local community is fast outpacing the local infrastructure. West Kilbride already has massive parking issues throughout the town. There are very few local employment opportunities and there is no longer a permanent police presence within the town.
"The street layout was designed specifically with a village in mind and 4.5 years later the SNP and Labour administrations have still not decided on the one-way system on Main Street. There is no traffic management system in place around the town, except for the traffic lights at the Meadowfoot Road bridge, and it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured at one of the main junctions.
"We have serious questions to answer about basic town planning before we consider building more houses within our local communities just so that North Ayrshire Council can tick a box with Scottish Government housing targets.
"Upon reviewing the Main Issue Report it is concerning that West Kilbride, Dalry, Hunterston and Barrmill have been highlighted to accommodate 25 out of a total of 54 potential development sites across North Ayrshire.
"This growth cannot go on unchecked without first addressing the existing problems."
