Cumbrae Primary

All pupils of Cumbrae Primary spent the month of January learning about Scotland's aspects, and the life and works of Robert Burns.

This ended with an excellent Scottish concert with all pupils including the nursery children taking part. They all entered a poem and art competition, sponsored and judged by Cumbrae Burns Club. All the art work is exhibited in the Garrison and the recitation winners performed the winning entry at the Scottish concert as did the singing winners.

To conclude the whole event, P7 held an excellent Burns Supper on Thursday 9 February with special guests including parents and members of the Burns club.

The school took part in a Friday elective. The children all chose an elective to participate in on Friday afternoon. This allows them to develop a personal interest and work with other adults and children from other stages. Groups so far have been sports, food science, STEM, computing, crafts, drama and playground development.

The school have established a new house system this year and every child is now able to be involved in a school committee.

The pupil council have drawn up plans to improve the open area to make a space for quiet reading and other activities.

The Health Committee are organising activities for a health week in May. Other plans from other committees include improving recycling, toys and activities for break times, developing a school charter and looking at improvements in connections with communities throughout the world.

Lottery funding of £10,000 is being used to have a sports court and football pitch painted in the playground and an activity trail.

Cumbrae Primary School welcomes parent participation in many aspects at the school and has a parent focus group on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and Gillian Barbour holds a drop-in parent group with many activities on Friday mornings.
