Police are stepping up patrols with operations at Douglas Park last Saturday, and this coming weekend, after vandal problems reported in the ‘News’ and social media.
However, a local police chief has urged the public to alert the police immediately on ‘101’ rather than just posting the matters on Facebook, as too often, the matter has passed before the police are made aware.
Last week, resident Caroline Le Good Morgan wrote to the ‘News’ to ask for solutions to the ongoing matter at Douglas Park.
During this month’s Largs Community Council meeting, Inspector Brian Skimming said: “There have been reports to the police of youths congregating in Douglas Park and Anderson Parks. Unfortunately, by the time we were alerted to the matter, the issue had passed.
“There seems to have been a bit of activity on facebook in relation to the problem over recent weeks, and that is all very well to discuss the matter, but we’d rather these people contacted the police first, as by the time we pick it up the issue has passed.
“There were three calls to the police regarding the parks since 12 January, and we went along, and we did find either empty bottles or did find alcohol among the youths, so please phone us in. We are running this action plan over the next few weeks.”
