Development Opportunity

After years of decay the Police Station/ house on Main Street Inverkip is up for sale. This property of red sandstone has been a bugbear to those who live opposite and also those who pass it daily. It has to be a cash sale as no mortgage will be available.

Inverkip Beavers

After reporting that the 85th Scout Group was looking for assistance to run the Inverkip Beavers it has now been intimated that they will only meet once a fortnight due to lack of adult and leaders. This is sad when so many have benefited from going through the ranks from Beavers to the Scouts in Inverkip.

Inverkip Primary

Inverkip Primary raised £1000 towards books and resources from a recent Scholastic Book Fair. The school is also getting £9,600 from the Scottish government Pupil Equity Funding Scheme. Head teachers and School leaders to decide on how this is spent.

The Primary School Charities Committee are looking for donations for the foodbank. Items are bags of sugar, diluting orange and U.H.T milk and Easter Eggs will be very welcome.

Car Damage

During the second week of this month a car was damaged outside the shop at Sainsburys. It was obvious that someone had reversed into it and the damage was quite severe. It is reckoned the car was a white one as traces were left on the damaged car. The culprit did not wait to give details to the owner of the blue car. Some people are saying the no longer park in that area because of reversing cars.

Woman’s Institute

The meeting on Monday 13th had a most interesting illustrated talk by Stained Glass Artist Alan Galloway.

Alex who trained at the Edinburgh College of Art told the members how he goes about doing restoration work on stained glass some of which is over 100 years old. He has refurbished windows in the Old West Kirk Greenock. Alan spoke of how he sometimes has to do detective work on pieces of painted glass that is very faded.

The old glass is plated under the new pieces for future restorers to see in years to come.

Alex has exhibited his Contemporary work in Gallery’s and Studios and his work for the Beacon Theatre is to be rehung there to celebrate its five years since opening.

Alex was thanked for his talk and perhaps will return with more of his slides of his work at a future date. Competition Jar of lemon Curd was won by Betty Howie, 2nd Kate McPhail and 3rd Anne Devlin. The fun competition fro favourite candle holder was won by Leslie Howie, 2nd Kate McPhail and 3rd Anne Devlin.
