Largs and Millport Weekly News: Local residents and businesses are being encouraged to have their say on proposals for Largs prom and seafront area which includes Gallowgate Square, Aubrey Park and the north promenade.
Two public consultation events have been planned to give members of the public the opportunity to come along and share their views on the design proposals.
The first event will take place on Tuesday March 7 from 1pm – 6.30pm and the second session will be held on Wednesday March 8 from 12.30pm – 4.30pm.
Both events will take place at the Session Room, St Columba’s Parish Church, Gallowgate Street, Largs, KA30 8LX.
The Largs Masterplan was commissioned by the council and was completed in September 2015 following extensive community engagement and can be found at www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/LargsPublicRealm

Councillor Alex Gallagher, Cabinet Member for Economy, pictured, said: “The Largs Masterplan was developed to reinforce the connection between the waterfront, the promenade and the town. I believe that an upgraded and improved Promenade is vital to the Town if we are to stay attractive to visitors and indeed increase visitor engagement and footfall along the prom to Aubrey Park.”
He added: “I am excited to see the plans being developed and I would encourage residents and businesses to attend one of our consultation events to help shape the design plans for the Largs.”
To discuss the Largs Masterplan or to have your say on the design proposals please phone 01294 324921 or email regenerationlargs@north-ayrshire.gov.uk.
The price tag of the development is £590,000, and will be designed by TGP Landscape Architects.
The emerging plans – which were drawn from the Largs Masterplan were put forward at the North Coast Locality Planning Partnership meeting in December 2016. The designs have been given a mixed response by the public so far; some of who have welcomed adult exercise equipment near the prom, although the shelter design at Aubery has been likened to ‘Sydney Opera House’.
Once approved, the construction will begin after this year’s summer season. It is hoped that the changes to Gallowgate Square will make it available as a marketplace venue and possibly for live music events.
As recently reported, the Largs BID business group have indicated that they hope to have a say on the design proposals and have requested they are given the opportunity to fully engage with the designers.
