Rowing Club

Cumbrae Coastal Rowing Club held their AGM in the clubhouse 'Hiccups Lounge'. They are now actually seeking new members. The skiff will be launched on 2 April following a winter makeover at Newton Sands. Everyone is invited to join in the fun at 2pm. Families are especially invited to join in with the rows on Sundays from 2pm. Kids of all ages are welcome and lifejackets are provided. The club also meets them every Tuesdays and Thursdays depending on the light from 7pm for adults only. Rowing is great fun and a good way to exercise.

If anyone wants any more information, contact Austen Currie on 07802 820 002.

Tourist Association AGM

The Isle of Cumbrae Tourist Association are holding their AGM on Wednesday 22 March in the lounge of Frasers Bar at 7.30pm.

All members are being urged to attend to give their support and to contribute their views. They also support many events and organisations, advertise events, run a special website, and produce the Millport brochure. They also organise one of the major festivals in Millport - the September Illuminations. Everyone's input will be made very welcome.

Cumbrae Dramatic Club

Rehearsals are underway by Cumbrae Dramatic Club for their summer playhouse. Dogged by problems last year, due to health and other commitments by the cast, only one performance took place last year - two one act plays and a monologue. This year, the club are hoping that three performances will take place.

The programme is a one-act play 'Strictly (Sex) Factor on Ice' by David Tristram and a duology 'Coffee Break' by the same author. Dates of performances will be given nearer the time.

Personally speaking

Following articles in the 'News' about dog fouling, it is being pointed out that Millport has the same problem. This writer actually stood on some dog's dirt which was right outside her close door! While waiting for her two year old grand-daughter to arrive with her dad, she had to clean up the mess. It has been said that Cumbrae Community Council will be dealing with the problem. Dogs are rarely seen on their own nowadays, so the owners must be with them. It is hoped that action can be done as it is in Largs. Hopefully North Ayrshire Council can put up some posters around the town.
