The “Grumpy Old Pipers”was formed 12 years ago when a group of retired, mixed-ability bagpipe players got together to socialise, practice, and entertain the locals of, and visitors to Millport.
They meet every Wednesday at the local Royal British Legion Scotland in the town, and in the summer months, put on their kilts, “grumpy” shirts, and play at the war memorial at the front.
Secretary Eric Smith told the ‘News’: “Everyone, including ourselves, seems to enjoy listening, and donate coins to our “box” .
Each year, the Grumpy Old Pipers have managed to accumulate around £1000 from these donations, and all of these funds are handed out to local youth organisations, as well as other deserving causes such as North Ayrshire Cancer Care.
