JD Wetherspoons in Largs have put in an ambitious bid to create a seating area in front of their premises on Largs promenade.
Largs Community Council have objected to the proposal for 10 tables and 40 seats because of a lack of space on the public footpath area where the development is proposed.
External furniture and demountable barriers consisting of triple rope and poles are proposed for the location, comprising of 42 square metres.
However, the popular prom’s width would be reduced as a result of the development.
Community councillor Drew Cochrane said: “This is something I would champion usually, but the problem is the lack of space for pedestrians and cyclists. There is not enough wiggle room.”
Community councillor Anne Carson spoke in favour of the idea and said: “It is one of the nicest areas to sit and enjoy the sun setting.”
But other community councillors pointed out that the area was well used by walkers, who also enjoyed the sunsets.
