There is still time to sign up to Pedal the Park later this month, and help raise money to support young cancer patients and their families.
Pedal the Park is a challenging 100k road cycling sportive event which will see hundreds of participants cycle around the stunning scenery of Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and North Ayrshire.
The event, held on Sunday April 23 and hosted by Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and Ride 63 Community Cycling Club, is donating a third of all entry fees to CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer support charity for the young.
The sportive is a non-competitive road cycling event where individuals can challenge themselves and enjoy the camaraderie of tackling the route with fellow cyclists.
The event is in its third year and more popular than ever, after entry numbers doubled after the inaugural event. Organisers are hoping that 350 keen bikers will hit the route this year, helping to raise thousands of pounds for the charity and the families it supports.
Leaving from Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park’s Castle Semple Visitor Centre in Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, the route will roughly follow the Regional Park’s 108 square mile boundary and features 2 challenging climbs, one out of Greenock up the Shielhill Glen Road and the other up over the Dalry Moor Road.
More than 200 riders have signed up so far, but places are still available.
Online entry for Pedal the Park is through British Cycling and costs just £15. You can also download and complete an entry form from the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park website – www.clydemuirshiel.co.uk/downloads. You must complete this and pay at Castle Semple Visitor Centre in advance of the event.
Entry also includes a cycling goody bag with medal and food station supplies.
The food station will again be at Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park’s Greenock Cut Visitor Centre and will have some mechanical support as well as all important toilet breaks.
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children, young people and their families, and works to help them minimise the damage cancer causes.
Rachael McLean, Fundraising Engagement Manager at CLIC Sargent, says: “We are incredibly excited to be coming along to Pedal the Park 2017.
“Huge thanks to everyone who has signed up – you’re contributing our vital work with young cancer patients in Renfrewshire and beyond, enabling us to keep fighting for them and their families.”
