Following reports of quicksand concerns at Seamill, the Coastguard have issued advice to the public about what to do if you encounter the problem on the local beach.

A children or pet could sink in dangerous quicksands thought to be caused by a combine harvester churning up sand on Seamill beach, according to a dog walker.

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team is urging the public to take extra care at the coast following reports of 'quicksand' in Seamill. Warning signs have been erected by North Ayrshire Council to ensure the public are aware of the danger areas recently identified and we could always ask that these signs are adhered too.

A spokesperson for UK Coastguard said: "Coastguard advice is that if you do find yourself stuck in quicksand or mud, try to spread your weight as much as possible, avoid moving and stay as calm as you can.

"Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard and we’ll get our specially trained teams out to you as quickly as possible. Discourage others from attempting to rescue you, since without the proper equipment they could become stuck in the mud as well.”

Coastguard Rescue Teams are specially trained and equipped to deal with all coastal emergencies, including incidents involving mud and quicksand.
