The sportscotland National Sports Training Centre Inverclyde in Largs has now opened its doors to the public following a major £12million redevelopment funded by Scottish Government.

Sportscotland welcomed the community back through the doors with a community open day on Sunday.

The stunning building is the first of its kind in the UK, providing a residential sports training centre designed with inclusivity in mind.

It provides world-class indoor and outdoor sports facilities and accommodation for users of all levels of physical and sensory ability from schools and clubs, to performance athletes and the local community.

In order to welcome back the community and showcase the best of what it has to offer, the centre hosted an open day which featured a range of free ‘come and try’ activities such as badminton, tennis, golf, gymnastics and archery as well as offering free tours of the whole facility. This included the new accommodation block for the centre’s residential groups which the local community wouldn’t normally be able to access.

The day created a great buzz around the centre with over 200 people taking part in the free activities and finding out more of what the centre can offer the community.

John Kent, Centre Principal said: “The community open day seems to have been a great success! Our aim was to showcase our new facilities by welcoming everyone for a day of fun and community spirit. We hope this opportunity has given everyone who attended an insight in to what we do and what we now have to offer along with having some fun with their family and friends. It certainly looked like everyone was having a great time!”

Community users can book and use many of the facilities 7 days a week at the centre, including football pitches, badminton and tennis courts and there is a range of fitness classes to complement the new 860m² fitness suite. The centre is also home to the National Gymnastics Performance Centre which also hosts a number of gymnastics classes for all levels and age groups.
