Cumbrae Queen

The Cumbrae Queen 2017 has now been chosen at random from Cumbrae Primary School P6 girls. All the girls in P6 are eligible for the accolade and 11 year old Susan Johnstone was chosen for the honour. Susan lives in Glasgow Street, Millport, with her grandmother. Susan will be attended by three classmates, Danni McEnhill, Lucy Latham and Lucy Telford, as her ladies-in-waiting, as is tradition. All the boys from P3 are page boys at the ceremony and this year there are two boys Tristan McNair and Jack Paterson. The boys will carry the crown and sceptre.

The crowning ceremony will take place in the Garrison grounds on Saturday May 13 at 2pm. Lucy will be crowned Cumbrae Queen 2017 by Alastair Chisholm B.E.M.

The present Cumbrae Queen Lauren Weipers has had a lovely reign, attended many functions, and been as asset to the island. She is looking forward to graduating to Largs Academy this year.

Classic Car

The third classic car rally will take place on Saturday May 13, sharing the day with the crowning of the Cumbrae Queen. The organisers are predicting around 80/90 cars participating this year, as well as two classic fire engines

The event takes place in the grounds of the beautifully restored Garrison House at 11am. There will be a prize for the best car as voted by the public which will be a dinner, and bed and breakfast in the Royal George Hotel. There will be a parade of all the classic cars through the town at the end of the event, and the new Cumbrae Queen will present the prize to the best car as her first official duty. There will be loads of family fun and entertainment including bouncy castles and face painting. In the evening there will be a 50s and 60s music night in the Royal George Hotel, keeping with the theme.
