Teenage Cancer Trust’s Scottish patron, Alan Biggar,is stopping off in Largs during a two-week drive with his 60-year-old Morgan sportscar around Scotland to raise funds and awareness for young people with cancer.
Alan is taking his vintage Morgan to remote areas of Scotland; areas where Teenage Cancer Trust’s new Nursing and Support service, which is rolling out in Scotland this year, is looking to reach all young people with cancer.
During this drive, Alan’s Morgan will have her 60th birthday, and will be reaching Largs on Wednesday May 24.
Teenage Cancer Trust needs to raise £2,850 a day to maintain all their services in Scotland. Currently, almost half of young people with cancer across the whole of the UK are not treated in Teenage Cancer Trust units and don’t have access to their expert care. Teenage Cancer Trust intends to provide specialist nurses in Scotland.
In April 2013, Alan successfully completed what was meant to be his third and final motoring venture for Teenage Cancer Trust round the 6 Nations’ rugby stadiums.
Alan said: “The work that Teenage Cancer Trust does in Scotland is hugely important, and it’s so upsetting to me that only one in every two young people with cancer is able to be reached through the Teenage Cancer Trust units. This is what makes the new outreach care Nursing and Support Service so important.”
Christine Jason, Head of Fundraising (North) of Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “Alan is such a passionate champion of Teenage Cancer Trust in Scotland and has been absolutely integral to our work in the country.
“However, our work in Scotland is not done – we need to raise £2,850 a day to maintain all our services in Scotland.”
