Ewe must be joking!
That was undoubtedly the reaction from the Largs crew of Scottish Fire and Rescue after the second lamb in a month had to be saved.
In Hunterston Estate on Monday afternoon, this lamb had become stuck in a pipe, and it was something of a mystery as to how it got there.
A worried member of the public, Gillian Trotter, spotted the incident and contacted the emergency services.
Chief Fire officer Peter Bowyer took up the story: “We dug around about the put and we had to cut it open and pull it out. I don’t know how long he had been in there.
"It was certainly one of the more unusual call outs, but he was particularly grateful, and we gave him a wee drink of water.”
The call-out came at 2pm and members of the public were particularly grateful for the fire crew’s intervention to save the sheep.
Gillian Trotter said: “Huge thanks to Largs fire and rescue for saving a lamb that we found stuck down a drain pipe whilst out riding in Hunterston.”
A fortnight ago, Skelmorlie Fire and Rescue attended a blaze on the back hills near to Wemyss Bay and managed to rescue a lamb which had suffered some burns, and safely returned ‘Larry’ to the farmer.
