It’s a favourite walk of many in the town, and also holds many cherished memories, but Aubery Pond has been missing a very important ingredient in recent weeks - water!
The boating pond has been lying empty in recent weeks, sparking concerns on social media pages in Largs that there might be more of a problem.
A statement on the North Ayrshire Model Boat Club website said: “North Ayrshire Council are continuing to investigate the pond and the immediate surrounding areas to determine action needed to resolve the water leakage problem. Until survey results are known and remedial action taken, the pond regrettably is unable to be refilled We expect to have further updates by early June. The clubhouse will continue to be open to members on Sunday and Wednesday.”
New independent Largs councillor Ian Murdoch said: “The pond has been surveyed and is awaiting repairs. This can only be done when the correct procedure has been completed. Please be patient as these things take time.”
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Following our recent regular maintenance work at Aubery Pond, a crack has appeared and we are currently investigating the cause of this.
“Rather than simply patch it up as a temporary measure, it is hoped our investigations will allow us to find a long-term solution.
“We have kept the model boat club fully updated with the situation and they are understanding and supportive of our efforts.”
