Largs Rotary are planning ahead for more fundraising activities to help local, national and international causes.

The Club Assembly, was the main topic at Tuesday's lunch meeting and is always an important day in the Rotary calendar when incoming conveners lay out their plans for the coming year.

A lot of thought has gone into ways to promote the club, especially trying to attract new members,

Rotary spokesman Carl Williamson said: "One interesting fact is the Club will be celebrating its 60th anniversary a year from now, with plans to mark the event already under discussion.

"Several changes have taken place over these 60 years, with the introduction of lady members, perhaps one of the most notable, and several have worn the President's chain with great distinction."

The Rotary Club of Largs (Scotland) extends a warm welcome to those who may be interested in joining the club, as well as to those who are just curious to learn more about the club's activities. The club was founded in 1958 and today has about 40 members. There are no age limits. The club's core activity is raising funds for worthy causes both at home and abroad.

* Largs Rotary sponsors a number of annual youth projects with local schools. These include Young Chef a school cooking competition, EuroScholar a visit by a pupil to the European Parliament, RYLA for pupils to attend youth leadership courses and the Robertson Trophy - a primary schools quiz.

* An ongoing International project is the eradication of polio. The success we saw in the fight to end polio this year -- with polio-free milestones reached in Nigeria and the African continent -- wouldn't be possible without the support of health workers, local governments, Rotary and Global Polio Eradication Initiative partners

Largs Rotary is continuing to support the international bid to end polio around the world.

Clubs across Great Britain have come up with lots of fun and innovative ways to raise awareness for Rotary’s polio eradication campaign and Largs Rotary are getting on their bike to raise funds to help with the campaign.

Largs Rotary have organised a sponsored cycle around Millport on Father's Day - Sunday 18 June.

John Hewko, General Secretary of Rotary International said: "We are close to eradicating a human disease for only the second time in history. A global public-private partnership has reduced the polio virus caseload by 99.9% over the last 30 years, but there’s still plenty of work to do."
