As 'Don't Stop Believing' belted out to bring the curtain down on Largs Academy's stunning 'Rock of Ages: School Edition' success on Wednesday evening, the over-riding thought was sheer disbelief at the outstanding talent of the pupils.
The end of year show is always one of the must-see highlights in the calendar, and yet again, Barrfields Theatre was the perfect venue as the pupils immersed themselves in the nostalgic period, even though they themselves were too young to remember the magical era.
We were transported back in time to the days of loud rock anthems, and even louder hair, when music expressed great hope for the future, and being cool at the school wasn't an option, it was compulsory.
The show was a sell-out on its final night, and musical director Craig Smith said he was delighted with the show, and pointed out it was good to leave the audience on an upbeat note at the end following the dramatic finales of West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera over previous years.
Producer Emma Newton said: "Performing arts provide young people with the opportunity to express themselves, to bring characters to life, to exude their talents and to learn new skills. This year, like countless in the past, the pupils in the cast and ensemble of the show have shown relentless ambition, ceaseless courage and inconceivable professionalism. They've risen to the challenge of performing roles that require strong acting, dancing and singing skills."
