Local church minister Chris Vermeulen has been suspended from duties for a period of five years.
The Church of Scotland decision was taken by the Presbytery Commission last month after the minister was placed on ‘administrative suspension’ in August, pending an investigation, in relation to a church rule violation.
Rev Vermeulen, who has served St Columba's Parish in Largs, and Fairlie Parish since 2015, has resigned from his position.
A Church of Scotland spokesman said: “Mr Vermeulen was suspended for a complex set of reasons which related to the way in which he applied for and accepted a job with an outside public body.
“The Church has a process to follow in the case of a vacancy and the Presbytery of Ardrossan will be involved in supporting both congregations. The Presbytery will be discussing the issues at hand shortly.”
