A family of a Largs woman who suffered serious injuries after a fall would like to thank a good samaritan who provided immediate help before an ambulance arrived.

Octogenarian Jean Aitken took a tumble in Boyd Street on the afternoon of Friday July 12, suffering a broken nose, left arm and knee cap, but is making positive progress and will soon return home after a month in hospital.

Niece Janice Thomson, who lives in North East Fife, contacted the 'News' to see if anyone could help identify a young man who provided assistance while waiting for the emergency services.

Janice said: "A number of people came to help, and a young man sat with her for over half an hour till the ambulance came. I would love to be able to contact him to thank him. My aunt has been in hospital with quite severe injuries. She doesn't know what happened. It was in the afternoon and it was a nice day, and she was having lunch with one of her friends, and heading round to the doctor for an appointment when the accident happened.

"She is so positive and making progress. The young chap said he worked in a gym and he obviously had first aid knowledge, and he had a cloth and was able to mop up some of the blood. He provided help and encouragement for over half an hour. The Largs ambulance was not available, and they had to wait for the Kilbirnie ambulance to arrive. Every time I visit her in hospital, she always talks about how helpful he was on the day and it would be nice to thank him."
