Reports of a possible body in the water relayed to Largs lifeboat resulted in a search of the east coat of Great Cumbrae on Tuesday morning.

The check was carried out following a passing yachtsman’s report of what looked like a body in the sea.

Largs lifeboat and her volunteer crew launched to carry out a search of the area.

The search area was between the watersports Centre and Ballochmartin Bay, and after an extensive search of the area. a lobster creel float was found to be the object seen by the yachtsman.

The float was partially submerged with some frayed rope which could have been mistaken for Blonde Hair.

RNLI's Alasdair Woods said: "This call is considered to be a false alarm with good intent. We always say, it is better to be there and not needed than not to be there when needed.

"Having confirmed that this was indeed the object of concern the lifeboat returned to station."

On the evening of Monday August 7 at 9.15pm. Largs lifeboat volunteers were once again to assist with a yacht suffering from engine failure and struggling to enter Largs Yacht Haven.

Although conditions were relatively calm, the vessel was moving closer to the shore and into danger, and at this point the lifeboat was called to assist.

As the lifeboat approached it was noted that there were four people on board the yacht which was taken in tow to the marina where she was safely moored alongside.
