New folk music nights are coming to Largs on a monthly basis, thanks to award winning professional folk musician Hayley Keenan.

Hayley is a talented young Largs musician who is lucky enough to travel the world performing at festivals and other events, and has seen an opportunity to give something back to her community by using her own skills to set up a folk music club.

The former Largs Academy pupil has great contacts in the folk music business and will be able to attract top class acts to the town.

Hayley said: "As a community based venture we will be harnessing local and visiting talent to perform in floor spots."

She has secured start up funding from Scotland Live Awards for this venture, and is looking for more funding to sustain the club.

The club will take place on the first Sunday of each month starting on 1st October. Hayley’s own band, Talisk, will be the guest artist on the first night at Lounge, 4.30pm start. They have a website – www.talisk.co.uk, and are also on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Hayley Keenan is a former pupil of Kelburn Primary School, Largs Academy, and member of the North Ayrshire schools traditional group.

Talisk’s breed of vibrant Irish and Scottish traditional folk stood out amongst hundreds of entries, and won them one of just four places in the finals. The band features a line up of Mohsen Amini on concertina, Hayley on fiddle and Craig Irving on guitar.

In 2015, Talisk won the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award at an awards show at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
