West Kilbride is gearing up for its new arts and music festival which is only a few weeks away.

Vertex festival will bring together artists, musicians, makers and writers over ten days of events, concerts and workshops.

The festival incorporates existing activity including concerts from Music in West Kilbride, the village’s Soundtown project for young musicians, Village Folk and the West Kilbride Ukulele Group as well as concerts and a live comedy night and a Gothic Ball to mark Hallowe’en.

The festival takes place from October 20 to 29 with around 20 events across five venues.

The Tim Kliphuis Trio provide an international start to Vertex Festival at the Village Hall on Friday October 20, combining a masterful command of instrument and repertoire with genre-mashing interpretations of gypsy jazz, folk and classical music.

Learn how to seamlessly mix tracks while filling the dance floor with Steve Le Mash. He will be delivering a special turnatablism workshop for aspiring DJs - young and old.

No West Kilbride music and arts festival would be complete without local legends The Fencebay Band. The six-piece outfit’s sole aim is to get people onto the dance floor. They have a track list that includes contemporary rock and pop, bluegrass, 60s hits and more, and perform in the Village Hall on Sunday October 22.

On Wednesday October 25, look out for a comedy night at West Kilbride Bowling Club with compere Billy Kirkwood introducing some top talent including headliner Gary Little.

And at the Barony Centre, it’s automatic, it’s systematic, it’s hydromatic... It’s the Vertex Pop-up Cinema on Friday October 27!

With popcorn, hotdogs and a family-favourite musical classic, Vertex finishes by bringing the silver screen to the village. Experience the friendships, romances and adventures of an American high school in the 50s.

Fancy dress is optional – singing along is a must!

Vertex Visions is an exciting youth led arts project where young people aged 15 years plus will work with a community artist to produce outdoor artwork which will be displayed around the village.
