There was plenty of food for thought at Millport's Woman's Institute event hosted on the island recently.

More the 20 ladies participated and tasted the results of a "starters and stoppers" cookery demonstration at the Age Concern hall in the Garrison Grounds.

The members, old and new, learned from Judy Moore how to prepare within minutes for the unexpected guest by producing a Sydney cream pudding flavoured with Kahlua, and a savoury Green Goddess dip.

Marion Livingstone's quick Kipper Pate vied only with her delicious spiced plum chutney in the opinion of her rapt audience, and President Sheila Bentley combined custard, cream ,marscapone ,icing sugar, madeira cake and strong black coffee with a topping of powdered cocoa to produce an authentic to-die-for easy Tiramisu.

Delighted guests combined their refreshing cuppa and chat with a thorough taste-testing of all these delicacies after the demonstration , and all gave the evening an enthusiastic "thumbs-up" as the new session got under way.

The competition was for a small starter or stopper and it was won by Judy Moore, Margaret Johnstone and Marion Livingstone

President Sheila congratulated the winners and announced the competition for the meeting next month. Members were urged to bring their favourite deck of cards.
