This year’s Largs Yuletide Night was a resounding success, despite the challenging weather conditions!
From Santa’s Grotto to the fireworks the festive fun, the event, paid for by Explore Largs BID, lit up the town and gave kids memories of a glittering Largs Christmas that will last for ever!
Special thanks go to Duncan Conner, proprietor of The Bus Stop Toy Shop in Irvine Street Largs, who annually takes on the mantle of Mr Christmas, co-organising the event with the Explore Largs BID.
Duncan takes up the story: “It’s heart-warming to see businesses, the community and volunteers all pulling together in Largs, that’s what makes our town the best.”
Thanks to the participants of the parade led by The 1st Largs Boys Brigade Pipe Band and marshalled by the Largs Resilience Team.
This year, Santa was welcomed to Largs in a decorated Jewsons truck and was joined by Largs Primary School, Largs Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, The Girls’ Brigade, Kelburn Junior Rangers from Kelburn Castle and Country Estate, Largs Youth Theatre, Karen Aitchison Dance School, Largs Gymnastic Display team, Largs Dance Academy, St Stephen's Samba Band an array of elves and more!
Santa’s Grotto was staged in M&Co, and was professionally dressed, again courtesy of Explore Largs BID. Yvonne Prager, Explore Largs BID Street Ambassador and the co-ordinator of the events said: “M&Co were fantastic, all the staff and management were really helpful and accommodating.”
Entertainment was provided in venues around the town and on staging set up in Tron Place. Brave performers from the Largs Primary School, Largs Youth Theatre and Karen Aitchison Dance School performed despite the elements. Yvonne added: “We can’t thank participants enough as they sang and danced through rain, wind and even a snow flurry!”
Additional thanks go to Brisbane Evangelical Choir, Café Bon Bon, Caledonian MacBrayne, Gavin’s, Kwik Fit, Largs Rotary Club, North Ayrshire Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the Salvation Army Band and charity stall holders.
But the biggest thanks of all go to Santa and his Elf helper who travelled down from the North Pole especially to see the children in Largs. Despite their hectic schedule and plans for the next few weeks, they spent hours talking to each and every child as well as giving them a present before each kid headed off to have their faces pained.
Largs Yuletide wish you all a very Merry Christmas and thank everyone for taking part and remember shop local for Christmas.
