The brand new skatepark – situated at Mackerston at the Largs seafront – will be complete early next year.

Work is due to begin next week and when finished, will comprise a range of features – including quarterpipes (two concave ramps) and hubba ledges ( a ledge down a set of stairs) - to suit people at all levels.

Designed and constructed by Bendcrete Skateparks, the skatepark will be created in such a way to allow many skaters to use it at once.

The layout lends itself to good flowing lines no matter how busy the skatepark is. There is lots of platform space to accommodate larger groups of riders where they will wait for their turn to ride.

On quiet days riders will be able to utilise the whole skatepark by carving around ramps transferring from feature to feature.

The skatepark is being financed from money from the Largs Car Park Fund.

Councillor Alex Gallagher, Cabinet Member for Economies, said: “This is going to be a fantastic resource when it is completed. It is great to see the money from the fund is being spent on a facility for our young people.

“I’ve looked through the plans and they are really impressive. We look forward to it being complete and we’re sure it will be a fantastic asset used by locals and people visiting the town.”

The skatepark is replacing the previous one at the site and should be finished by the end of January 2018.

It will used by boys and girls who do skateboarding, scooters, inline skating, BMX and trials riding.
