The ongoing problem of benches donated to the community in West Kilbride continuing to be vandalised shows no sign of abating.

Sadly, the incidents which have occurred over recent years, as reported by the Largs and Millport News, reoccurred at the weekend.

And the West Kilbride Amenity Society now have to consider the future of the benches as a result of their ongoing destruction.

Audrey Kolon of the Amenity Society said: "I am really upset that the vandals have been at the benches again this time near Law Castle up Law Hill. It looks like they had a good time jumping on it. All the Civic Society ever wanted to do was provide places for everyone to sit and rest and enjoy our little town. I am beyond understanding how these louts find it necessary to try and destroy nice things around the place.

"We also had random vandalism at the viewpoint at Jacks View on Boxing Day when the newly planted rose tubs in memory of Betty Stanger,,a Civic Society stalwart who died recently, were overturned and one broken. What idiots think this is acceptable?

"The Civic Society will replace the damaged bench on Law Brae but we do not have endless funds to do this and quite frankly we are losing the will to continue to try and provide better small amenities for the village. There is no reasonable explanation, we just assume some 'neds' with little to do but take their spite out on a bench for kicks!

"We have no way of dealing with this and as low level vandalism is not high on the police's agenda; it will just be noted on the crime statistics and that will be that."
