A new Largs Regatta Festival has been launched with headline event sponsors Buzzworks.
In a bid to bring new yacht racers and boating enthusiasts to the Firth of Clyde, a new Largs Regatta Festival has been launched for the 2018 August Bank Holiday weekend with the help of new event sponsor Scotts, Largs - part of the Buzzworks Group.
Largs Regatta Festival, with the motto “Breathing new life into Clyde racing”, will incorporate three days of racing on the Firth Of Clyde, sponsored by sailmaker Saturn Sails, with racing open to serious racers, keen club racers, white sail cruisers and dinghies.
The unique Round Cumbraes Race remains in the schedule in its traditional Sunday slot, flanked by two days of inshore racing. The sailing schedule will be complemented by a wider range of shoreside events for both competitors and the public, supported by our new sponsors Scotts Largs and Buzzworks Group.
The changes come after a survey with past competitors who were asked how the previous event format, Largs Regatta Week, can be improved.
Commenting on the changes, Largs Yacht Haven Director Carolyn Elder believes the new format will allow more competitors to take part: “One of the biggest drawbacks to the previous format was that racing was held over a nine day period which was too long. Our past entrants told us that they wanted the races to be scheduled over a shorter period of time. Therefore, the event organisers are confident that this new, three day racing schedule and the enhanced shoreside programme running over the August bank holiday weekend will ensure the event remains one of the most popular racing events in Scotland for years to come.”
Drawing on Buzzworks links to boutique distillers, designer breweries and quality entertainment, organisers believe the shoreside events should prove very popular to both visitors and sailors alike.
The music festival ashore will be open to the public and will certainly provide a lively welcome to sailors after a day on the water.
Kenny Blair, director of Buzzworks, said: “Scotts, Largs has established itself as an integral part of Largs Yacht Haven and the community which frequent it, so we are delighted to support the biggest event of the year and add a new dimension to the Regatta as it evolves.
“We pride ourselves on great quality food and drink and a warm welcome and we are confident our support of the 2018 regatta event will be a great addition to all of those attending.”
The traditional Scottish Two Handed Race will take place the following weekend, Saturday 1st September, alongside the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club Youth Regatta.
The 2018 Largs Regatta Festival is scheduled for Saturday 25th August until Monday 27th August., organised by Largs Sailing Club, Farlie Yacht Club and Largs Yacht Haven.
